Sample cover letter for Internship position at hotel

POSITION:

Food and beverage

Dear

Please accept this letter and my resume as my application for the food & beverage internship with Marriott Vacations Worldwide. I became aware of the opportunity through my advisor, at University. I am currently a senior pursing a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management with a minor in Business Administration. I strongly believe that my 8 years of experience in food and beverage along with my academic degree makes me an ideal candidate for this position.

As my resume indicates, I have worked in many different positions in the hospitality industry to become better rounded and gain professional skills in the area of management. I am a hard working student that has received training in the hospitality industry since I was 15. I have regularly worked 40+ hours a week while taking a full course load and also operating my own disc jockey business venture. Specifically, last summer I assisted the Director of Food and Beverage of a Minor league baseball stadium that held over 9,000 patrons. During that time, I was directly involved in leading operations of establishing schedules, receiving product, and inventory management. I also had the responsibility of placing orders with distributors and training new employees. My goal is to find a position within the hospitality industry with opportunities for career progression. I enjoy working in this industry and look forward to contributing to Marriott in any way I can.

In researching your organization, I was impressed by the 6% RevPar growth rate that  has experienced last year. Additionally, I am very interested in the many innovative ideas that your organization has implemented and admire the college programs that provide students with reputable experience. I recently had the privilege of speaking with a local Manager discussing the company’s beliefs and standards. After learning about these, I found myself agreeing and holding similar beliefs of which the company stands on. Specifically, the value of putting people first is something I have always taken very seriously.

With my related experience and educational background, I believe I am well qualified for this position and can make a significant contribution to  I look forward to an opportunity to discuss the position and my qualifications with you. You can reach me at Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Mr. James Crowley
Finance Manager
Acme Inc.
555 W. Applegarth Blvd.
Anytown, TX 75000

Dear Mr. Crowley:

Two of your former interns, Brian Hodges and Martha Smith, suggested I contact you regarding finance internship opportunities. They are familiar with my background and felt I would be an excellent match for your summer internship program.

Currently a junior majoring in finance at UNT, I have demonstrated strong academic performance in all finance courses, maintaining a 3.5 GPA in my major. The courses I have completed have given me a solid foundation in the tools, processes and methodologies involved in the successful analysis and management of portfolio-investment strategies. I have a proven ability to learn challenging concepts quickly and have developed competencies in diverse areas, including:

  • Industry research/information sourcing
  • Comparative analysis
  • Quantitative analysis
  • Pro forma analysis
  • Cash-flow analysis
  • Financial modeling and asset valuation
  • Portfolio and asset management
  • Insurance plans and mutual funds
  • Retirement and estate planning
  • Tax planning and investment strategies

In addition to my analytical strengths, I bring to the table advanced computer skills (with cross-platform exerptise in Windows and Mac); expertise in the MS Office suite of products; and familiarity with programming languages including SQL, HTML and VB.

Since starting college, I have worked part-time (summers/holidays/evenings) as a clerk at Wal-Mart. In this position, I have earned a reputation for consistently exceeding company and customer expectations. Wal-Mart's store manager has asked me to return this summer, but I yearn to gain corporate finance experience. I am impressed by Acme's innovation and success, and I would very much like to be part of such a winning company.

The enclosed resume provides more details of my skills and achievement track record. If you agree that I would make a valuable addition to your team, please feel free to call me at (555) 555-5555 or email me at pamela@somedomain.com. I know you are busy, so thank you for your time, and I look forward to speaking with you.

Sincerely,

Pamela Jung
